This Saturday will be the first Butler City Farmers Market of the year on South Chestnut Street starting at 8 a.m. and go until 12:30 p.m.
Butler City Mayor Bob Dandoy, has spent the last two days cleaning up and preparing the facility for the market. But for Dandoy the work is worth it because of the importance of community building.
“What we keep looking for in the city are events that can bring people in the city together,” Dandoy said.
People in Butler City also faces the challenge of finding fresh and nutrients food people otherwise might not get. The Farmers Market provides another option to residents according to Dandoy.
“We start with the most fundamental service you can provide healthy food for people in our community,” Dandoy said. “We are a food desert. We need to have that availability of fresh fruits, vegetables, meats and things like that for our community to make a healthier community. It starts with that, and then it grows from there so we have all the other offerings that come along with it.”
If you want to stay up to date with which vendors will be selling or any other information to the farmers market you can go to Butler City Farmer’s Market Facebook page for updates.
