Pennsylvania’s governor is taking time to recognize the dairy industry in Pennsylvania. Josh Shapiro recently took part in a farm tour in honor of June as Dairy Month—an industry he says is very important to the state’s economy.
Shapiro’s proposed budget includes $1 million to create a new Organic Center of Excellence and $500,000 for a new Center for Plant Excellence as well as ongoing funding for the Pennsylvania Farm Bill and the Farmland Preservation Program. The Governor noted the importance of supporting local agriculture by saying, “From a capital to a programmatic perspective, we are investing in the needs of our farmers, especially our dairy farmers, all across this Commonwealth. There’s strong bipartisan support for investing in AG. I intend to push that through in the final weeks of our budget negotiations and I’ve been met not with resistance but with excitement from both sides of the isle, recognizing that AG has to be a key part of our future here in Pennsylvania.”
