Slippery Rock University is adding Narcan kits to buildings on campus to help prevent overdoses.
University officials say thanks to a donation from the Pennsylvania Overdose Prevention Program, more than 300 Narcan kits will be available at 24 high-traffic locations at SRU.
School officials say this is “all about harm reductions” to help stop overdose deaths.
“If people are suspected of an opioid overdose, Narcan is the most effective way to revive them. If you are afflicted by drug addiction or if you unknowingly take a drug that’s laced with Fentanyl, the punishment should not be death,” Lizzy Kline, SRU health promotion coordinator said. “That’s why it is so important to have these kits readily available in case of an emergency.”
The kits will be available in a wall-mounted, clear bin that will includes gloves and an instruction kit.
The kits will officially start being installed this week, and a “Narcan Saves Lives” event will be held Thursday night from 5-7 p.m. at the Smith Student Center.
