American Red Cross officials are sounding the alarm about a significant shortage in the blood supply.
The Red Cross says the supply has fallen to critically low levels and they are now facing an emergency blood shortage.
In recent weeks, the Red Cross has had to limit distributions of some of the most transfused blood types to hospitals.
Data shows that blood donations have been declining for the last 20 years, with the Red Cross saying the number of donors has dropped by about 40 percent.
