Crews in Cranberry spent over an hour trying to put out an electric vehicle fire at a shopping plaza Tuesday.
The call came into the Butler County 911 Center just after 4 p.m. for a vehicle on fire at a shopping plaza near St. Francis Way and Route 19 in Cranberry Township.
When crews got on scene, they found an electric vehicle battery had caught on fire in the trunk of the car.
Crews say they had to spend over an hour dumping water onto the battery fire in order to put it out.
However, firefighters noted that since it was an older model vehicle, the battery was easier to access as opposed to some newer electric vehicles.
The car was then taken to a tow yard, where firefighters say there are no hazards nearby.
