Three men are facing charges as a result of a death in the Butler County Prison in November.
The incident happened on November 22, when jail guards found inmate 23-year-old Alec Miller unresponsive and pronounced dead later that day. An autopsy revealed that Miller had died from fentanyl poisoning.
After Miller’s death, investigators interviewed his cellmate William Derrick who admitted to investigators that Miller had acquired contraband and controlled a substance from another inmate, Qualin Davis.
Investigators then searched Davis’s cell and found over 16 grams of fentanyl. There was also video evidence from the prison of Davis delivering drugs to Miller. The video also revealed a third inmate, Richard Bowser, receiving contraband from Miller.
Davis has been charged with drug delivery resulting in a death, selling a controlled substance to an inmate, contraband control of a controlled substance by an inmate, and more.
Derrick and Bowser were charged with contraband control of a controlled substance by an inmate.
Miller died just days after being convicted of murdering 23-year-old Max Halterman in March 2019.
