The Mars Area School Board will consider an expansion project at their meeting later this week.
Following up on meetings that have been taking place since last year, Superintendent Dr. Mark Gross presented the board with possibilities for addressing needs last week ahead of Tuesday’s regular meeting.
After receiving feedback from the Comprehensive Planning Community Action Committee, the board could vote on an option that would include a new wing at the elementary school with 18 grade level classrooms, seven kindergarten classrooms, five additional classrooms, and a new cafeteria/kitchen. The existing cafeteria would be converted into a STEAM classroom with administrative offices.
Once completed, the new facility would house kindergarten through third grade students with fourth graders moving to the Mars Area Centennial School after a future expansion project is completed there. The Primary Center would be held in reserve for offices, district programs, and other uses yet to be determined. The entire cost of this project is expected to be $24 million and could begin in May of 2025.
