A portion of Mars-Evans City Road was shut down for hours Sunday following a fatal motorcycle crash.
The accident happened just after 9 p.m. when a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Chad Meier of Mars was driving north on Mars-Evans City Road and he missed their turn into the Dollar General.
Police say Meier then pulled off onto May Lane and made a U-turn back onto Mars-Evans City Road. At that same time, a witness told police that a motorcycle driven by 29-year-old Tyler Coon of Mars was speeding in the southbound lane.
Coon hit Meier’s vehicle and was thrown from his bike. Coon was unresponsive when crews arrived; a medical helicopter was initially called but Coon died at the scene.
Police and first responders were on the scene for over four hours to investigate.
