Two of three Mars sports teams reach PIAA semifinals

High School Sports from the weekend:
–The Mars boys lacrosse team defeated Devon Prep 18-6 Saturday afternoon in the PIAA Class 2A Quarterfinals. They will meet South Fayette Tuesday at North Allegheny high school. The Planets defeated South Fayette 16-5 to win this season’s WPIAL championship. It is the first time two WPIAL teams have met in the lacrosse semifinals. The match begins at 6pm. Mars is the only WPIAL team to have won a state title.
–The Mars girls lacrosse team were eliminated with a 10-8 loss to Malvern Villa Maria Saturday.
–The Mars boys volleyball team defeated West Shamokin 3-0 in the PIAA Class 2A Quarterfinals. The Planets improved to 22-0 this season and meet another undefeated team in the state Semifinals when the face 19-0 Meadville Tuesday at Shenango high school.
