A Harmony man is facing charges after allegedly taking thousands of dollars from a fundraising event.
An organization known as Nevin’s Hunting Friends held a golf outing last September, where they raised over $10,000. The non-profit worked with 36-year-old John Minarik that day to handle all the donations.
Police say soon after the event, a dispute arose between Minarik and volunteers with the outing. Those in charge of Nevin’s Hunting Friends told police they never received any of the money from the day.
During the investigation, Minarik initially told police that he believed another individual who coordinated the outing actually stole the money.
Police say they leaders of Nevin’s group had no issue with the golf outing coordinator.
Charging documents say that eventually Minarik told police that he had spent the money and didn’t have enough to pay the organization.
He has been charged with theft of services, theft by deception, and theft by fail to make required distribution of funds.
