Measures taken by the Butler Transit Authority to ensure that all riders pay required fares are proving successful.
At their meeting Tuesday evening, Authority Board members heard from Executive Director John Paul about progress made following a revision of the Code of Conduct Policy dealing with fares in May.
Bus drivers have been giving notices to riders who cannot or will not pay the full fare amount saying that they have three days from that point to pay the shortage at the terminal or face suspension of riding privileges. According to Paul, the number of passengers attempting to ride without paying the full fare has dropped significantly since the beginning of the year and by over 50% in the past month alone.
Paul emphasized his appreciation for the efforts of the drivers to implement the policy with the desired effect. The policy is posted on each bus so that all riders are familiar with the changes.
