Late last week the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court released a ruling that will have a big impact on the 2024 Presidential Election.
After an incorrect date on two mail in ballots in Washington County were not counted, the Commonwealth Court says they county errored.
The court ruled that the mistake of a ballot being misdated or not having a date does not warrant enough to not count ballots.
In the majority opinion the court says that when the commonwealth is “rejecting ballots based on minor irregularities is concerned, our Supreme Court has cautioned that such power ‘must be exercised very sparingly and with the idea in mind that either an individual voter or a group of voters are not to be disfranchised at an election except for compelling reasons.”
It’s expected that this decision will be challenged further to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
