A Western Pennsylvania state representative is looking to extend a law that will prevent Pennsylvanian’s utilities being turned off.
State Representative Rob Matzie, who represents parts of Beaver County, wants to begin the process of reauthorizing a law that will prevent shut offs that expires at the end of 2024.
Chapter 14 of title 66, prevents utilities being shut off from fees and delinquent bills, while providing customers more options to pay off those fees.
This new legislation however will expand the power by giving more flexibility to the PUC to help with payment agreements, brings water and waster water, limits financial disclosures, address cash deposits and reconnection service, and it will require utilities to work with struggling customers.
The chapter passed the house with a vote of 111-91 and will head to the Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure.
