The Pennsylvania Game Commission has issued an alert to all drivers as deer become more active during the end of daylight savings time slow down on the roads.
As fall nears deer become more active leading up to daylight savings time on November 3. According to the Game Commission, Pennsylvania led the country in insurance claims for animal related collisions.
The same report says Pennsylvanians have a 1-in-61 chance of a vehicle accident with a big game animal.
If you do hit and kill a deer you do not need to report it to the Game Commission but you want to claim the dead deer carcus you can call 1-833-PGC-HUNT or 1-833-PGC-WILD. You must claim possession of the deer with in 24 hours.
If the deer does not die, you are advised to keep your distance, encouraged to report the accident, or call the game commission if the deer needs to be put down.
Call 1-800-FIX-ROAD to report a dead deer for removal.
