After Governor Josh Shapiro was sworn into office it left the office of Attorney General open. Tuesday’s election will now fill that seat with an elected official.
Traditionally when the Governor selects a replacement for a row office the chosen replacement will not run. Current Attorney General Michelle Henry will not be the Attorney General come January. Instead it will be Democrat Eugene DePasquale or Republican Dave Sunday.
DePasquale previously served as the Auditor General but most recently lost a congressional challenge to U.S. Congressman Scott Perry in 2020. DePasquale graduated from Widener University Commonwealth Law School but he does not have prosecutorial experience.
Sunday currently serves as the District Attorney for York County. He has also served as a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
DePasquale is campaigning on protecting women’s reproduction rights while Sunday has been arguing he will be the tough on crime candidate.
