It is Halloween which means many kids will be hitting the street for trick-or-treat later tonight.
Many local townships and boroughs will be holding the annual candy-hunting explorations tonight, although some had their events this past weekend.
Nearly all municipalities have their trick-or-treat start at 6 p.m., with most running either one or two hours.
Officials are offering safety tips for children ahead of tonight’s trick-or-treating.
PennDOT and police say that safety is key when going from house-to-house.
They urge children and parents to make sure they are visible to drivers. They say to carry a flashlight and wear glow sticks or reflective tape.
Officials also say to:
- Never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.
- Cross at street corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks when available.
- Put down electronic devices and pay attention to their surroundings.
- Look both ways before crossing the street.
- Always walk on sidewalks, when available. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
