Butler Area School District is nearly ready to begin using a new weapon detection system at three facilities.
As part of an ongoing commitment to the safety of students and staff, advanced detection devices will be used at the Senior High School, Intermediate High School, and Summit Elementary School.
These systems use artificial intelligence to identify objects that resemble the shape of a weapon. The devices are also portable so they could also be used at different events and activities as needed.
The new systems will be delivered and installed this week followed by training for staff. After that, Summit students will walk past the device each morning and students at the High Schools will experience the system as an added security measure alongside metal detectors.
