Butler Township commissioners have filled the position of top law enforcement officer in the municipality.
The commissioners approved a motion at their Monday night meeting to hire Brian Barnhart as the next Chief of Police.
Barnhart was sworn in by Judge S. Michael Yeager and is already starting administrative tasks with the department. He previously served in the U.S. Navy for five years in the late 80s and early 90s before transitioning to the State Police where he most recently was Station Commander for Butler County.
Beginning in June, a total of six candidates expressed interest in this position before Chief Barnhart was interviewed and selected.
