The 2025 Butler Township budget will once again be balanced without a tax increase for residents.
Butler Township administrators and department heads presented their needs to the commissioners as part of the annual budget meeting.
According to Township manager Tom Knights, the size of the budget is expected to increase by about $10 million to just over $21 million. This figure includes the nearly $9 million needed to complete the three fields and two buildings of the Pullman Recreation Complex.
Budgetary expenses include expanding the police force by two more officers to 23 total as well as two new Interceptor SUVs and new side arms. Two pickups, a snowplow, generator, and loader have been proposed for use by the road department. The township also plans to do about $900,000 in paving in 2025 and replace the salt dome roof.
Township officials used $1.2 million of the proceeds from the sale of BASA assets last week to pay off the rest of what was still owed on the township building. They expect to collect about $3.5 million in interest from the remaining sum next year and only use a portion of that with the rest being rolled over back into the money market account.
The commissioners will pass a preliminary 2025 budget with a vote Monday before finalizing the plan for next year in December.
