Over the next month, statewide officials will be taking steps to ensure safe driving conditions.
“Operation Safe Holiday” started earlier this month, and it runs through New Year’s Day.
The program specifically looks to remind drivers to wear their seatbelts, drive sober, and to eliminate distractions behind the wheel.
Last year, PennDOT estimates that 92 percent of unbelted occupants who were killed in fatal crashes could have been survived if they had buckled up.
Police also say from Thanksgiving 2023 to New Year’s Day, state police investigated over 1,600 alcohol-related crashes.
