Richard was born in Butler on October 21, 1934 to the late Andrew & Della Douglas. Mabel was born in West Sunbury on January 11, 1937 to the late William “Bill” and Josephine “Jo” Hall.
They were married on April 1, 1957. Mabel was a homemaker during their entire marriage. Dick was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked with his father in their electrical business. He worked for various electrical contractors until he began his career at the Butler VA Hospital as an electrician until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Butler Writers guild and enjoyed writing short stories and poems. Dick & Mabel were members of Summit Presbyterian Church and enjoyed gathering with friends every Saturday morning at McDonalds.
They are survived by three children, Richard W. Douglas of East Butler, Ken Douglas of Butler and Peggy Sarvey and her husband David of Meridian. Five grandchildren, Andrew Douglas and his fiancé Haley, Joe Douglas and Stephen Douglas all of East Butler, Christine Cavanaugh and her husband Zach of Cabot and Carey Fisher and her husband Jonathan of Ellwood City. Four great-grandchildren, Josephine, Adilena & Emmaus Fisher and Ash Cavanaugh. Dick had one remaining brother, Dave Douglas and his wife Joy of Flower Mound, Texas. Mabel’s sister-in-law, Pearl Hall of Mesa, Arizona also survives. They are both survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Deborah Douglas. Dick was preceded in death by one sister and 2 brothers and Mabel was preceded in death by one sister and 3 brothers.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 E North Street, Butler, PA 16001. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 7:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. David Perry of Summit Presbyterian Church officiating.
Dick & Mabel will be laid to rest privately at the Summit Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
