Multiple fire departments were on the scene of a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Penn Township.
The initial call came into the Butler County 911 Center shortly before 4 p.m. for an exterior fire on a home in the 100 block of Hicks Road.
Penn Township firefighters were joined at the scene by crews from Butler Township, Herman, Connoquenessing, Saxonburg, and Middlesex Township. All of the residents were able to evacuate before a portion of the roof collapsed.
A portion of Hicks Road needed to be shut down and the power company was called to disconnect electricity. At this time, it’s unclear what started the fire, but there was significant damage. Crews were able to clear the scene after nearly three hours.
The American Red Cross is assisting three people who lost their home in the fire.
Additional brush and shed fires were reported Tuesday afternoon in Clay and Jackson Townships.
