A group of local officials is asking the state to undertake a full audit of a local nonprofit organization.
Butler County Commissioners Leslie Osche, Kim Geyer, and Kevin Boozel have joined with State Representatives Marci Mustello, Stephanie Scialabba, Aaron Bernstine, and Tim Bonner in sending a letter to Auditor General Tim DeFoor about Community Partnership Inc.
The letter states that the group has “serious concerns about…financial management and compliance with federal grant requirements” following a recent audit by local accounting firm Maher Duessel.
Findings of the audit include material weaknesses in financial reporting, inadequate segregation of duties, noncompliance with federal grant requirements. Community Partnership Inc. has a mission to serve low-income, disabled, and elderly residents of Butler County.
Additionally, the group claims Geyer was denied access to the organization’s 2024 annual reports without explanation and a meeting earlier this month between Bernstine and Executive Director Sandra Curry was canceled by Curry who claimed there was “no need to meet”.
“When elected officials are denied access to basic organizational records, it undermines the trust of the residents we serve,” Geyer said in a statement. “A thorough audit is essential to restore confidence in Community Partnership, Inc.’s operations.”
