Today marks one year since the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump at the Butler Farm Show Grounds.
Tyler Friel was on scene that day.
“Crowds arrived early in the day to see then-candidate Trump back in Butler for the first time since 2020. The event this time was held at the Butler Farm Show Grounds because the airport in Penn Township had been booked for a previous event.
The day was extremely hot—with temperatures in the mid-90s. The day was filled with guest speakers before Trump took the stage just after 6 p.m. It was less than 15 minutes later that shots rang out, with one bullet grazing the ear of Trump.
During the gunfire, three men were hit, including Buffalo Township firefighter Corey Comperatore, who died from his injuries.
Trump was then raced to Butler Memorial Hospital.
The shooter was identified as Thomas Crooks of Bethel Park, who was shot and killed by snipers who were stationed on the roof of one of the buildings at the Farm Show. Much still remains unknown about Crooks and his exact motives.
Comperatore was honored yesterday in Butler, with a memorial ride that brought in over 700 people to remember his life.”
