Gas prices continue to skyrocket both locally as well as across the western Pennsylvania region as a whole over the past week.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve gas in Butler, as of yesterday, increased by 62 cents to reach $4.70 per gallon.
The average gas price across western Pennsylvania as a whole rose by 51 cents to reach $4.65. The most affordable average price for gas in the area can be found in Bradford at $4.44, while the most expensive is in Jeanette at $4.71.
The average national gas price increased by 34 cents over the past week to $4.38 which is $1.29 more than a year ago and the highest since July of 2022. This is attributed to the ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Gasoline demand rose slightly last week while the price of oil shot up to nearly $107 a barrel.
