A McKeesport woman has been charged in Butler after being accused of having heroin during a search at the Butler County Prison.
On April 30 at the Butler County Courthouse, 35-year-old Darena Carpenter was being sentenced for a crime. While being booked into the Butler County Prison, jail officials suspected she was hiding something, but she denied having drugs on her.
However, during the search police say they found five bags of heroin in Carpenter’s possession.
She was charged with possession of a controlled substance as an inmate.
She is awaiting a preliminary hearing for the new charges.
