The long-awaited plans for the Powell Farm in Cranberry Township have officially been released.
The 71-acre farm will see updates to facilities, continued crop operations, and decades of farming education for Western Pennsylvania schools.
The farm is currently active and has been growing apple trees but is expected to have its first round of crops in a year, but the largest first crops will be in two years.
The farm will experiment with different crops but will focus on growing apples, pears, berries, and flowers.
The “farmer” for the property will be Noah Petronic who has almost 25 years’ experience working in the farming industry including several stints working with Soergel farms.
Along with the farm the Powell family has left an endowment between $800,000 to $900,000 that will be used to help sustain the farm for decades.
