Work will once again get underway this fall to improve storm water management in the City of Butler.
As part of the Monroe Street Storm Sewer Project, City Council awarded a bid of just over $2.43 million to Holbein, Inc.
This storm sewer improvement project was started 12 years ago but had to be paused due to available funding. Now crews will work on upsizing the replacement of a storm sewer on Cunningham Street, install an extra culvert and pipe to take high water from Cunningham to the Connoquenessing Creek, and milling/paving of the area when done.
According to City Building Code Official John Evans, this work will not guarantee there will be no flooding in the area, but it will significantly reduce the chances that it does occur. The money to complete this project comes from the initial proceeds from the sale of the BASA assets and is not part of the City’s Legacy funds.
Work is expected to begin in September after PennDOT finishes the signal replacement project currently underway at Jefferson and Monroe Streets and grants the permit necessary for the storm sewer work. The project would then finish about a year from now.
