Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement officer is warning those looking for a summer job to be weary of scams.
Scammers will offer fake jobs to obtain personal or financial information and they will often offer work-from-home options that also have flexible schedules or easy income.
To avoid being a victim Attorney General Dave Sunday has provided these tips:
- Search for the company online independently with the words “scam,” “review,” or “complaint.”
- Talk to someone you trust to help identify red flags
- Don’t pay for the promise of a job
- Never bank on a “cleared” check, employers will never send you a check to deposit and then tell you to send part of the money or buy gift cards with it.
- Call the company to verify the offer.
- Check the sender’s email address carefully.
If you have fallen victim or have identified a scam you’re asked to file a compliant with the Office of Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
Complaints can be filed online, by emailing consumers@attorneygeneral.gov, or by calling 1-800-441-2555.
