A bill passed in the state house that would lower the speed limit on dirt and gravel roads is one step closer to becoming state law.
Currently, state law allows vehicles to go up to 55 miles per hour (mph) on dirt and gravel roads. Municipalities also have the option to post a speed limit of 35 mph on any of these roads.
This bill will require a maximum speed limit of 35 mph on over 23,000 miles of dirt or gravel roads.
House bill 2274, passed with bipartisan support (121-80) and has been introduced in the state senate.
The bill was referred to the Senate Transportation Committee.
