The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler has received funding from the state to start a pilot program to address blighted homes.
The Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund (PHARE) awarded the city’s Redevelopment Authority $250,000 for a new program to rehabilitate homes.
With the money, the city will acquire, rehab, then resell blighted or distressed housing. Officials say this will increase the amount of safe, single family unit homes for sale to lower- or middle-income families.
Any profit made from the sales will be reinvested into more homes to continue increasing availability of homes.
