A Kittanning man is facing three years of probation after pleading guilty to stealing a disabled child’s social security benefits.
47-year-old Jared Koeller was sentenced to 36 months of probation, an initial five months of home detention, and has been ordered to pay $17,000 to the United States Social Security Administration.
According to charging documents, Koeller held custody of the child, but when custody changed, Koeller continued to receive the social security payments and misused the funds.
The stolen benefits were returned to the child by the government, which is why Koeller is responsible for paying back the federal government.
