Adams Township is officially moving forward with a plan to merge with Mars Borough.
At a meeting of the Adams Township Board of Supervisors Monday night, members unanimously approved Ordinance 194: an Intermunicipal Agreement for the Merger of the Township of Adams and the Borough of Mars.
This move follows months of in-depth conversations between officials and public feedback meetings. Officials stated that postal officials assured them that mailing addresses and all mail pickup locations for Mars and Adams Township residents will stay the same if and when the merger is finalized.
Mars Borough is expected to approve their portion of this agreement at their meeting next month. Once that occurs, the joint agreement will be filed at the Butler County Courthouse in order to be placed on the ballot for Mars and Adams Township residents this fall. A majority approval of voting residents in each municipality is necessary to continue with the merger process.
