A bill being proposed in Harrisburg that would prevent private ride share companies from using surveillance pricing has advanced into the senate.
According to the bill’s memo, rideshare companies are accused of using more than surge pricing to determine pricing. The memo says, information such as low phone battery is being used to determine prices.
House Bill 2512, would ban this practice in the Commonwealth and only allow rideshare companies to use surge pricing as a way to determine costs.
The bill passed in the house by a vote with overwhelming bipartisan support and has been introduced in the senate consumer protection and professional licensure committee.
