Rudolph “Rudy” Corona, 88, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 23, 2017 at the Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born September 10, 1928 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Candido Corona and the late Maria Estefana de Gasca Corona.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during the Korean War as an Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class. Rudy worked as a teacher, coach, and athletic trainer in the Butler Area Schools for over 50 years. He was a member of the Elks Club. Rudy was one of the founding fathers of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Association and was a Certified National Athletic Trainer. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and was an avid fan. In his retirement, Rudy was an athletic trainer at local high schools and Butler County Community College. He was a coach and mentor to many.
Rudy is survived by his wife Marjorie, whom he married on June 8, 1958; one daughter, Jennifer Galichon and her husband J.P. of Mahwah, NJ; two grandchildren, Jacqueline Galichon of Boston, MA, Jackson Galichon of Mahwah, NJ; one sister, Armida Winsauer of Chicago, IL; one niece, Debbie Alongi of Chicago, IL; three nephews, Rick Corona of Chicago, IL, Joseph Corona of Chicago, IL, and Kevin Winsauer of Boise, ID.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Corona and Alfred Corona.
Friends will be received Sunday, August 27, 2017, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA.
A Christian Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017, 10:00 am at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St. Butler, PA.
Officers and Members of the American Legion Post #117 of Butler, American Legion Post #778 of Lyndora, and the VFW Post #249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
Burial will take place in the Butler County Memorial Park.
