VA Butler Healthcare’s new Abie Abraham Clinic in Center Township officially opened its doors Tuesday, though it won’t actually start seeing veterans until next week.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the North Duffy Road facility.
Congressman Mike Kelly of Butler was the keynote speaker. Vietnam Veteran and former Pittsburgh Steeler Rocky Bleier also spoke, delivering a tribute to the facility’s namesake Abie Abraham. Butler-native Abraham was a World War II veteran and survivor of the Bantaan Death March. Later in his life, he we was a recruiter and volunteer at VA Butler Healthcare for years, logging nearly 37,000 service hours.
VA officials said the new, two-story facility includes state-of-the-art equipment that will allow for better care and more opportunities for specialty services for vets, including mental health care and women’s health. Other services including dental care, audiology, radiology, ultrasound and aqua therapy will be offered.
The VA’s original facility on New Castle Road in Butler Township will remain open.
Va Butler Healthcare serves more than 35,000 veterans in a five-county region. Veterans treated range in age from 18 to 100 years old.
