The rain in Texas has come to a stop, but the devastation could have a ripple effect on the rest of the country.
By hitting the Gulf Coast so hard, Hurricane Harvey took 14 percent of the country’s oil refining capacity offline, and gas prices have started to rise nationwide. That includes here in Pennsylvania, where the average price was $2.55 per gallon at the start of this week.
On Friday, Sept. 1, prices in the city of Butler and Butler Township ranged from $2.69 to $2.85.
There is some good news. Gas analyst Patrick DeHaan said the increase is expected to be much less than when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans over a decade ago…and pushed gas prices up by 40 to 50 cents per gallon.
