Today marks 16 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Vice President Mike Pence was in Shanksville, Pennsylvania this morning participating in a ceremony to remember the passengers and crew killed in the attack on United Flight 93.
It was a somber memorial that included the tolling of bells and a reading of the victims’ names. It began about 9:45 a.m., when is the time that investigators determined passengers decided to revolt against the hijackers. The plane ended up crashing in a field in Somerset County.

Ground was broken Sunday on the final phase of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville.
A 93-foot tower will be built near the park’s entrance featuring 40 wind chimes, one for each of the 33 passengers and seven crew members who died.
It should be completed in time for the 17th anniversary of 9/11.
Over $40 million has been spent to transform the field into a national park.
