The Butler Transit Authority passed a motion Tuesday that inches the organization one step closer to being county-run.
The memorandum of understanding states that if the authority does merge with the county, it will continue to operate local service and continue to be called “The Bus” for at least the next 10 years.
In order for the merger to happen, the memorandum would need to also be passed by Butler County and Butler Township, as well as other ordinances.
The city passed the memorandum last month. The county and township are expected to pass it next week.
The merger could lead to an expansion of the authority, including service to Cranberry Township and into Pittsburgh.
