The Butler Area School District has dealt with three threats in the last two weeks.
Two were bomb threats against the Butler Intermediate High School. One was an anonymous threat posted on social media that did not specify a school. All cases turned out to be a hoax.
The latest threat came Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was found inside one of the bathroom at the Butler Intermediate High School. Students were evacuated and then let back inside after the school was cleared. Nothing was found.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White said this won’t be tolerated.
“Principals are having class meetings to talk about the seriousness of this to students,” White said. “We’re going to seek restitution and go to the fullest level of discipline that we’re allowed, which, depending on the student, is expulsion. We are looking at some other ideas or ways to control and to have more of an idea of who is going in and out of bathrooms since that seems to be the genesis spot of a lot of this stuff.”
Officials do not believe the threats were connected. White said the perpetrator of one of the threats was found and that student is currently going through the required disciplinary procedures.
