This time of year doctors tend to see a lot of sports-related injuries.
It’s not that the numbers of injuries are on the rise, it just seems to be the time of year.
“Sprains and strains are the most common injuries we see,” Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Jason Clark told our newsroom. He practices at the Butler Health System.
Commonly-treated injuries this time of the year include ankle sprains, muscle pulls, shin splints, ACL tears and tennis elbow.
Clark says healing can be different for a younger athlete verses an adult weekend warrior.
“The injuries are nearly the same, but the recovery is a bit different,” he said.
The reason? As you become more adult and your skeleton matures, you simply can’t heal as fast as when you were younger.
If you are going to play a sport this season, always remember to use caution and if injured, make sure you see a doctor and take time for your body to heal.
