Counties across the state will divide over $350 million in funding for municipal pensions and volunteer firefighters.
Butler County’s share comes to over $3 million, including over $1 million going to the Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Association and over $2 million being designated for municipal pensions.
Pension aid helps to maintain retirement funds for police officers, paid firefighters and other public servants, while the relief association contributions help to pay for needed equipment, training and insurance.
This funding comes from a two percent tax on out-of-state casualty and fire insurance premiums.
