A new short film about the family who founded the Butler County borough of Saxonburg will debut this weekend.
“Roebling’s Bridge” will have its world premiere in Saxonburg on Saturday, Dec. 16. It will follow the journey of John Roebling, his brother Carl and his son Washington as they found the town of Saxonburg. John’s patents for wire rope technology were later perfected by his sons and used throughout the world.
Producers of the 20-minute film plan to submit the work to several film festivals across the country.
“I couldn’t think of a humbler way to premiere our film then to go to where it all started for the Roeblings – Saxonburg, PA.,” producer Mark Friedman said in a statement.
This year marks the 185th anniversary of the founding of Saxonburg.
Tickets are still available for the movie screening, which will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday inside Cooper Hall in Saxonburg. They can be purchased at the South Butler Community Library for $10 for adults and $5 for students.
“We are excited about the world premiere of Roebling’s Bridge,” Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau, said in a statement. “Saxonburg is flourishing, and we
want people to know about the town’s rich history.”
