A couple of bills sponsored by a local state legislator about medical spending and drug pricing are moving forward.
In his role as Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee, Senator Don White House introduced Senate Bill 1003, which would require insurance companies and Medicaid to reimburse EMS agencies for services provided even when transport to a hospital does not take place. Currently, this is not the case.
Sen. White also introduced Senate Bill 637 to establish a Pharmaceutical Transparency Commission to review drug prices across the state and require companies to provide information about pricing. The commission would be funded through an annual assessment on pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Both bills have been approved in committee and will next move to the full senate for consideration and vote.
