Governor Tom Wolf has vetoed a bill that would have limited abortions in Pennsylvania.
On Monday Wolf used a veto to halt the progress of Senate Bill 3 which would ban abortions after 20 weeks in most circumstances. The bill would also have banned a particular method of second trimester abortion.
The legislation would have altered the existing 24-week limit but kept current exceptions in place including when a mother’s life is at risk. The bill does not allow exceptions for rape, incest or fetal abnormalities.
Last week the state House voted to advance the bill to the governor’s desk by a vote of 121-70 where it could have become law.
