Most public school districts in Butler County have only had one regular, full day of class since coming back from winter break.
This week’s bitterly cold temperatures have left most superintendents will little to no choice to delay or cancel school.
On Friday, all nine Butler County public school districts are closed. A-C Valley was the last to make the decision, switching from a two-hour delay to a closure just after 7 a.m. Most others- Butler, South Butler, Seneca Valley, Mars, Freeport, Slippery Rock, Karns City and Moniteau- decided to shut down Thursday night.
Friday’s high temperatures is expected to be 7 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. But, when you factor in the wind, it could feel as could as -22. In those conditions, officials say frostbite can occur in as little as 30 minutes, or sooner.
A Wind Chill Advisory issued by the NWS remains in effect for Butler County until Saturday afternoon. Our region should start to feel some relief by Sunday afternoon.
