The Mars Area School District will contract with a third party vendor for information technology services following a series of resignations in the department.
By a 5-2 vote with one abstention, the Mars School Board approved a contract on Tuesday with Information Technology Procurement Sourcing (ITPS) that will take effect Feb. 1. The district will pay the company $259,000 for the remainder of this school year and then enter into a three-year deal that will pay $624,000 in the first year.
This comes as part of a larger reorganization of the district’s Technology Department, including the elimination of the position of Director of Technology. The employee currently in that position will be moved into another position within the district.
According to Superintendent Dr. Wes Shipley, a total of five members of the district’s technology staff have resigned since August. Two current employees of that department will remain employed by the district while a third will interview with ITPS for a position in that company.
