An agreement with a neighboring school district will allow high school students in the Mars Area School District to choose a new elective.
At Tuesday night’s school board meeting, board members approved course modifications to begin this fall that included a crosstown agreement with Pine Richland for access to their Air Force Junior ROTC program.
Under this agreement, Mars students who choose to take the ROTC class would be bussed to Pine Richland for one period a day. Mars would only be responsible for the cost of transportation with Pine Richland paying for instruction. Pine Richland’s ROTC program has been in place for over seven years but they sought out a partnership with Mars when told that their program needed more students to remain viable.
Pine Richland administrators, instructors and students attended the Mars meeting to discuss how the values and virtues taught by the program- like integrity, leadership, and community service-are beneficial to students.
