The Pittsburgh Penguins split their back-to-back weekend games, defeating first-place Washington 7-4 Friday at PPG Paints Arena, then falling 3-1 to the second-place New Jersey Devils Saturday. Evgeni Malkin scored the Pens only goal, it was his 29th goal of the season. Goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 35 of 38 shots on goal, while the Penguins managed just 16 shots in the game. The Pens host the Las Vegas Golden Knights and former goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury Tuesday.
With his two goals Friday night in the win over Washington, Evgeni Malkin became the third Penguins player in the past 25 years to score multiple goals over three consecutive games. He joins Jaromir Jagr from 1996 and Sidney Crosby from 2009.
The Pens have recalled goaltender Tristan Jarry to be the back-up to Matt Murray over Casey DeSmith.
