Even though Valentine’s Day is over, an event this weekend to benefit a local organization will look at a love that spans decades.
Jerry Johnston is directing the A.R. Gurney play “Love Letters.”
“About 50 years of correspondence between two very close friends and it’s very nostalgic, it’s very touching, it’s very funny but the idea is that this is a romantic thing perfect for Valentines Day. Instead of doing the normal dinner kind of thing we’re going to have desserts, coffee, tea, and then people can enjoy the performance.”
The performances will take place at St. Andrew’s United Presbyterian Church in Butler beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday as well as a Sunday matinee at 3 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the mentoring organization Connecting 2 Tomorrow.
Nedra Casey is one of the stars of the local show centering on nostalgia, missed opportunities, and deep closeness shared over five decades.
“We are just reading letters that we have written to each other during those 50 years of knowing each other and taking us from very young children to our final years.”
Tickets are $20 per person and are available at May’s Music Center as well as at the door.
